A Taylorsville carpet store suffered more than $275,000 in damage Wednesday when an early morning fire roared through the building, collapsing the roof.

Firefighters fought the blaze at G&R Carpets, 4973 S. Redwood Road, for close to two hours, Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Bill Brass said. The fire started at about 2 a.m."Once it got into all that carpet and padding it was tough to put out," Brass said.

No one was injured in the fire. Firefighters searched the building and its basement but found no one inside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, investigators are looking at the building's electrical wiring, Brass said.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent business and to a small apartment unit behind the building, Brass said.
