The 55-foot Pegasus rocket was launched from the belly of the Orbital Sciences Corp. L-1011 jetliner about 40,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, said Sgt. Michael Ward, a base spokesman. It flew for about 11 minutes and placed the satellites into orbit at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday.
