Service to family, church, friends, and neighbors was the focus of a life well lived by Marvin H. Burton.Born July 12, 1920, to Clifford Peart and Annie Selena Hanson Burton. He was the second son and one of the twelve brothers and sisters. Marv served a valiant mission in the Central States Mission. Immediately following his mission he served his country during World War II as a mechanic and assistant Chaplin in the 3rd Marine Fighter Airwing in Hawaii from July 1943 to February 1946. Marv married Lela Nelson on May 20, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They became the proud parents of six children.

Marv served his church in multiple callings. He was a member of two bishoprics, served on the High Council of the Sandy South Stake and as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple since its opening. Marv served the children and teachers of the Jordan School District for 23 years as the best custodian Midvalley Elementary and Mt. Jordan Middle School ever had.

Marv served his fellowmen through unnumbered acts of kindness delivered with a smile to family, friends and neighbors on a daily basis, for these he will be truly missed.

Marv is survived by his sweetheart of nearly fifty-two years, Lela; sons and daughters, Claudia Burton Dorius, Bobbi Burton, Rex N. (Julie) Burton, Bary N. Burton, Craig N. (Jill) Burton; daughter-in-law and ballgame date, Pat Burton; fifteen grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers. Preceded in death by his parents; his eldest son, Marvin Lynn Burton; brother, Ross H. Burton; sisters, Beulah Burton Knight and Arva Burton Bushman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday Feb. 28, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Mt. Jordan 4th Ward, 9800 South 200 East. Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy, Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward from 10-10:45 am. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
