Warren George "Sunny" Allsop died February 24, 1998 in North Bend, Oregon.
"Sunny" was born in a log cabin in Niter, Idaho, October 22, 1910 to George Tanner Allsop and Eliza Christensen Allsop. He married Agnes E. McClellan, April 25, 1932, later divorced. He married Mable Ashbaker Briggs, May 31, 1968.He is survived by his son, Richard Warren Allsop (Marlene), North Bend, OR; daughter-in-law, Celia Kay Allsop, Bountiful; step-sons, Gene Briggs (Joan); Rick Briggs (Marcia); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters, Dora Smith, Afton Gibbs, Grace, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Artell B. Allsop, Salt Lake City; Betty C. Allsop, Washington. Preceded in death by parents; wife; son, Kent; brothers, Ivor J. "Buss"; Don; sisters, Mattie A Christensen, Eva A. Jensen and Della A. Cornelison.
He grew up in Grace, Idaho. Was student body president at Grace High School, where he received all-state honors in sports. A graduate of Utah State University, he was selected for all-conference honors in basketball. In 1980, the Old Time Athletes Association honored "Sunny" for his contribution to high school athletes. He coached tow years at South Summit High School and 18 years at Bingham High School. He retired from teaching, coaching and counseling in 1976, after 41 years of public education service.
He served as president of the Salt Lake City Bowling Association; the Health, P.E. and Recreation Association; chairman and director of The White House Conference on Children and Youth for the State of Utah under Governors Clyde and Rampton. State, regional and national awards were given to "Sunny" for the 50 years of service to the United States Forest Service at Mirror Lake and the Fire Control Center in Salt Lake City.
An active member of the LDS Church, "Sunny" served and was served by his Olympus 3rd Ward family. Thank you to all who helped care for him and enabled him to live at his home this last year.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 2, 1998 at 12 noon in the Olympus 3rd LDS Ward, 4100 Camille Drive (2400 East), Salt Lake City. Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 So. 900 East, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the ALS Society, 4568 So. Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah 84117.
"Sunny" loved his students, athletes, many friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who came under his influence.
