Three solid events and one shaky one added up to BYU's second-best score of the season and a 194.625-191.9 victory over Southern Utah on Thursday.
The Cougars were particularly strong on floor and bars, where they recorded scores of 49.125 and 49.5, respectively. A couple of landing missteps kept the vault score at 48.625, but it was trouble on the beam that once again kept the BYU women out of the 195 range."We just need to get over the nerves on beam," said BYU coach Brad Cattermole. "We do well in practice, but we're just having problems in the meets."
Those problems came in the form of three falls, two of which counted for a final event score of 47.625.
BYU freshman Kelly Christensen won the all-around with a career-best 39.025. BYU gymnasts won every individual title.
The Cougars next host Utah State on Monday at 5 p.m.
