Group holds backing on phone bill

The Utah Association of Counties has put support for a bill that gives US WEST Yellow Pages revenue on hold.

Thursday, the association's legislative committee gave HB253, sponsored by Rep. Brent Haymond, R-Springville, "lukewarm" support. But hours later the association's executive committee overrode that endorsement."It just seemed there was not enough discussion of the pros and cons," said Brent Overson, a Salt Lake County commissioner and executive commmittee member.

The executive committee also was concerned that only 10 of the 30 to 40 committee members attended the meeting, Overson said.

He said that a bill that causes Utahns' rates to increase deserves more discussion. The association will revist the bill next Tuesday, Overson said.
