2 women slightly injured in Kearns car-train crash

Two women escaped with minor injuries after crashing with a train Thursday night.

A Blazer, driven by an 18-year-old woman whose name was not available Thursday night, was eastbound on 4700 South when it collided with a northbound train near 5500 West about 6:15 p.m., said Salt Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Jeff Evans. The train consisted of two engines hooked together. Both the engine and the Blazer apparently arrived at the same point at the same time, Evans said. The engine clipped the front right corner of the Blazer, causing it to spin and come to rest on the train tracks.

The train apparently was not going very fast because it stopped within 100 yards from the accident, Evans said.

The driver sustained a bruised lip and was treated at the scene. A passenger, a 16-year-old girl whose name was not available, was not injured either.
