Death: Stephen Warren Thayne

Stephen Warren Thayne died Wednesday, February 25, 1998 at his family residence in Tiburon, California after a valiant bout with cancer.

Born November 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Shirl and Florence Thayne. He attended Highland High School and graduated from the University of Utah where he served as Interfraternity Council President and was a member of the Golf Team. Steve went to work for IBM after college and later was employed by Computer Election Systems.He liked people and people loved Steve. Enjoying the outdoors, golf and many varied interest, he was always fun to be with. Steve was a splendid father, ensuring that his children received the best education and imparting to them his quest for excellence and his joy for life. Steve's favorite things were golfing at The Meadows, fishing in Montana, and hunting in Utah.

Survived by his wife, Alix Thayne; his two children, Tara Anne and Stephen Frederick Thayne.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 1998 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1123 Court Street (Court and Mission), San Rafael, California. Family graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 1998 in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, (Memorial Section), 3401 South Highland Drive.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Stephen W. Thayne Scholarship Fund for a deserving young golfer at the University of Utah. Checks should be made payable to "University of Utah/Thayne Scholarship Fund" and mailed to: University of Utah Development Office, 304 Park Building, Salt Lake City, UT 84112.
