The Days of '47 Parade is six months away, but applications are being accepted.
Parade officials say it's not too early to sign up, because entries in various categories are limited to balance the types of parade entries and keep the parade under two hours.Organizers will accept up to 60 floats in four different categories, according to Susan McHenry, parade co-chairman. They include business, (large and small), civic, government and religious organizations.
Twenty bands will be accepted, and officials are looking for antique vehicles, horses and horse-drawn vehicles. Floats should follow this year's theme, "Pioneers - A Legacy of Courage, Strength and Promise."
Although the parade celebrates the Mormon pioneers' ar-riv-al in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, it is also a "community event. Therefore, we urge other religious denominations and all types of groups to join the parade as several have done in the past," McHenry said.
Applications may be obtained by calling parade chairman Frank Hales at 560-0047 or McHenry at 254-1466.
