PacifiCorp bidding anew for Energy Group LONDON (AP)

PacifiCorp said Tuesday it has launched a new bid of $6.65 billion for Britain's Energy Group PLC.

The electric utility is the parent company of Utah Power and other subsidiaries. The offer by PacifiCorp, based in Portland, Ore., is 10 percent higher than a buyout the two companies announced in June. The buyout lapsed lapsed when the government ordered a full monopoly investigation.

British Trade Secretary Margaret Beckett ruled in December that PacifiCorp could bid again for Energy Group, whose assets include the top U.S. coal producer, Peabody Holding Co. Inc.

Energy Group is also coveted by two more potential bidders: the Japanese investment bank Nomura and another U.S. holding company, Texas Utilities.
