Alice Mae Stewart Whitesides Smith, age 91, passed away Saturday, January 31, 1998 at the Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield.

Alice was born October 7, 1906 in Rockland, Idaho, a daughter of George L. and Sarah Ann Hatch Stewart. She was raised in Clinton, Utah and married Ferris Ute Whitesides, December 1, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Alice was an excellent cook and housekeeper. She was also a talented artist and loved crafts, such as quilting. She had a very good sense of humor. She was active in the LDS Church, having served as a councilor in the Relief Society and also worked as work director.

Ferris died June 7, 1957. She later married Kenneth C. Smith. He passed away March 17, 1995.

She is survived by one son, Stewart Cal (Elaine T.) Whitesides, Layton; two daughters, Charlotte Beck, Kaysville; Rosalie Wood, Bountiful; one brother, Melvin C. Stewart, Scotsdale, Arizona. She had 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, also three step-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, both of her husbands and one grandchild, Shawn Ute Whitesides.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 5, 1998 at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd. with Bishop Leon Pulley officiating. Friends and family may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 12:45-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
