Death: Hans J. Risto

Our father, Hans Risto, died on Jan. 27, 1998, at the age of 82.

Hans was born on February 11, 1915 in Schwerin/Warthe, Germany, to Otto and Luise Rostin Risto. At the age of 15, he started his apprenticeship in his father's bakery, and after several years of training he became a master baker. He married in 1944, and settled after World War II in Bielefeld, Germany. In 1955, he immigrated with his family to Salt Lake City. He worked for many years as a baker at the Hotel Utah. Hans was very proud of his famous hard rolls. He was a hard working man, who even after his retirement worked in various places until only a few months ago.Our father was a unique person, who saw the world through different eyes than most people. He had a great love and enthusiasm for life. He loved to travel, and during his lifetime he visited a great part of the world.

Hans is survived by his daughter, Gundi (Mike) McClarin, Huntsville; sons, Dee (Debbie) Salt Lake City; Volker (Linda), Los Angeles, CA; John, Park City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Oswald Risto in Germany; and ex-wife and friend, Wanda Risto. Preceded in death by sisters, Irmgard and Ingeborg.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7th, at the home of Wanda Risto, 1922 South 400 East, SLC. Friends of Hans are welcome to visit between 4 and 5 p.m. At his request his remains will be laid to rest in Germany.
