U. student named a top U.S. volunteer

Paul Robbins, a University of Utah senior student in public relations, has received the 1997 National Earth Team Volunteer of the Year Award.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) said Robbins, of Salt Lake City, was one of only six individuals nationwide selected for the award.Robbins has volunteered for NRCS. Also, he assisted the Salt Lake Soil Conservation District, the Timp-Nebo Soil Conservation District and the Wasatch Front Resource Conservation and Development Council with numerous communications and education projects.

The Salt Laker's efforts in conservation communication and education help the public understand and support voluntary conservation programs in Utah and throughout the country, said Ron Nichols, NRCS state communications director.

As an Earth Team volunteer, Robbins created and coordinated the first annual Urban Bluegrass-Jazz Concert and Conservation Fair last July in Pioneer Park.
