Police nabbed two men accused of attempting to steal coils of copper wire from the city's repair and supply shops, 950 W. 900 North.
A Lehi man, 33, and a Lindon man, 34, were chased down by officer Eric Beveridge at 10 p.m. Thursday after he spotted the two men on the city's property. The men were arrested for investigation of theft, trespassing and public intoxication. The Lindon man was also arrested for investigation of giving the officer a false identification and forging a name on police documents.
Orem police Lt. Bob Conner said police receive several calls a week reporting stolen copper or scrap metal, which can be sold at recycling shops for cash.
"It's a big problem," said Conner. "Luckily, most of those (shops) keep good records, so we can build some cases."
