LaVerna Kent Payne Taylor, age 95, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998 in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age.
She was born October 5, 1902 in Lewiston, Utah, the daughter of Melvin Ernest and Viola Jackson Kent. She graduated from the old BY High School in Logan and attended Utah State Agricultural College. Active throughout her life in the LDS Church, she served for many years as a teacher and as President of her ward's Young Women's MIA and as a ward and stake board member for the Relief Society. She was a visiting teacher until her death. She operated a beauty shop in her home for many years and retired as Head of the Department of Cosmotology at Weber State College in 1964.On June 29, 1921 she married Louis Meyers Payne in the Salt Lake Temple. Mr. Payne died in December 1945. She married Arthur C. Taylor on August 6, 1949. Mr. Taylor died in 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Louis K. Payne of Piqua, Ohio; T. Jay (Marilyn) Payne of Bountiful; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia (Jack) Andrews of Cedar City. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Elna Bergesen, Edith Johnson and Grace Lindsay, all of Ogden. She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 1:30 p.m. at Leavitt's Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
