Terry Anderson, a former chief Middle East correspondent for The Associated Press, is going home to Ohio to join the faculty of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.
Anderson, an associate professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism since 1996, accepted a one-year contract to teach at Ohio as a Scripps Howard visiting professional with an option to renew for a second year. He will begin July 1.He will teach a standard course in reporting or foreign correspondence and a special course tailored to his background, Tom Peters, associate director of the Scripps school, said Thursday.
"The Scripps school has a great reputation and both the university and I have the expectation that I will be there for a long time," Anderson said.
Anderson gained worldwide renown after being held hostage by Lebanese radicals from 1985 to 1991.
