Margaret Bessie Smith Bruggeman, 86, died of cancer at her home, surrounded by her family on March 17, 1998.

She was born in Salt Lake City on November 13, 1911, the eldest of two daughters of Jeremiah Joseph Smith and Daisy Wonnacott. Margaret married Homer Frederick Bruggeman on April 23, 1935. This romance was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Margaret was an active member of the LDS faith whose gracious warmth and magnificent smile enriched those people and organizations with whom she worked. She had the ability to be a great friend and mentor to people from all walks of life. Margaret volunteered her time and loving concern to many. Her grandchildren know of her tremendous pride and great expectations. She sought and embraced truth. Her foresight and generosity will continue to bless her posterity.Margaret is survived by her sister, Kathrine Smith Manwaring Peterson; children, Jerry H. (Carolyn), Sharon (John I.) Kasteler, K. Jane (Brad A.) Mullen, Richard K. (Rebecca), all of Salt Lake City; son-in-law, Philip R. (Dana) Swensen; sister-in-law, Patricia LeMon Bishop; brother-in-law, Vernon T. (Marjorie) Bruggeman; nephews, Jon (Julie) Manwaring, Tony LeMon, Barry (Marilyn) Bruggeman, Brad (Moana) Bruggeman; 18 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; daughter, MarKay Swensen; daughter-in-law, Judi Yeager Bruggeman; and grandson, Craig Kasteler.

The family wishes to thank Margaret's sister, Kathrine, for the unwavering and gentle care administered these last months. Aunt Kathrine's tender and selfless support demonstrated her depth of devotion and love.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 1998, 1 p.m. at the Monument Park 17th Ward, 2795 East Crestview Drive (1010 South), Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South and Saturday 11:30 to 12:45 prior to the services at the ward. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.

The family wishes to acknowledge, with great appreciation, Rocky Mountain Hospice for their generous and loving assistance in helping us care for Mom.
