BASEBALL: Eight home runs by TCU tied its school record Friday and led to a 22-5 victory over BYU.

The Horned Frogs got a pair of homers each by Chris Connally, Royce Huffman and David Wallace, and BYU's Brad Winget also hit a pair of homers. Connally and Huffman had six RBI apiece.

TCU is now 18-10 overall and 5-2 in the Western Athletic Conference, while BYU is 14-10 and 4-4. The two teams play again at noon today.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING: Competing in her second of three races at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis, BYU All-America Sarah McKeever finished 37th (56.65 seconds) in the 100-yard butterfly. McKeever swims in the 200-yard butterfly today.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: BYU swept Park State College 15-4, 15-4, 15-4 Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse.

BYU boasted a .410 hitting percentage while holding Park State to .050. Torry Tukuafu led BYU with 13 kills, while Ingo Lin-demann added 10.

BYU will take on Rutgers tonight at 7 p.m. in the Smith Field House.

Junior colleges

RICKS MEN'S BASKETBALL: After opening NJCAA tournament play with a two-point loss, Ricks College has won two straight following Friday afternoon's 74-67 victory over Northern Oklahoma in Hutchinson, Kansas.

After repeated lead changes in the final 10 minutes of the game, a Shawn Moore 3-pointer with 2:45 remaining gave the Vikings a 65-62 advantage and a lead they would never relinquish. Ricks hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to ice the win.

Moore finished with a team-high 19 points, followed by Ricky Bower and Ty Church . Northern's Marlon Town scored 30 points.

The Vikings face Angelina, Texas, Saturday afternoon for seventh place and the consolation championship.

RICKS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: After falling behind by 14 points in the first half and finally taking their first lead in the second half, the Lady Vikings defeated Florida's Gulf Coast Community College 85-71 Friday in Salina, Kans.

A 13-0 run by the Vikings during a six-minute period late in the second half turned a GCCC advantage into a Ricks rout. Culminating the victory was a 16-of-16 performance from the line for the Lady Vikings.

Gulf Coast's Kaunda Williams finished with a game-best 42 points. Kaly Gillette led Ricks with 29 points, while teammate Cady Williams added 24.

In an afternoon game today, Ricks faces Wallace State Community College of Hanceville, Ala., for fifth-place honors.

UVSC BASEBALL: Utah Valley State College eked out a pair of home victories over Colorado Northwestern Community College in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday, winning both games in the final at bat by an identical 4-3 score.

The two teams play a noon doubleheader today.
