The Utah County Commission has given its blessing to a state Department of Transportation plan to close 10 railroad crossings and upgrade 21 more.

UDOT will undertake the Utah County closures and repairs with the help of federal funding. In addition, county commissioners agreed on Tuesday to provide a 6.77 percent match, or about $392,000 of the project's estimated $5.8 million price tag.The railroad will maintain the flashing light signals, gates and crossing surface areas between the tracks and the area 2 feet outside of the tracks, while the county will maintain and renew the remaining portions of the crossings.
