Our beloved husband, father, and Opa, passed away early Sunday morning, 29 March 1998, after a prolonged battle with heart disease.
He was born in Schiedam, Holland, 10 February 1921, the youngest son of 10 children born to Leendert and Lucina Boerstra Schippers. He married Gerda Wempe in Haarlem, Holland, on 31 January 1946. He then sought promise of a new life for himself and his family, and immigrated to America in August of 1952. His marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1953.Dad lived his life sacrificing and working hard for his family to make sure no one ever went without. He worked at several jobs before becoming an accountant for Bullock Motors in Pocatello, Vitt Construction in Salt Lake City, and Petty Motor Company. He remained a faithful member of the LDS Church throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Gerda; his children, Hans (Penny), Ron (Cheryl), Edward (Maggie), Linda Higgins (Bob), Rick (Julie), Glen (Michelle), Terrie Nielsen (Brent); 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road, where friends and family of Opa who wish to express condolences may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
