Mary Louraine Rockwell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 1998. She passed away as a result of acute leukemia, a disease that took her life within just a few days of its initial manifestation.
A lifelong resident of Tooele, Mary Lou was born December 12, 1926, to Lillian Marcella Gillespie and William Mueller. She graduated from Tooele High School and attended Brigham Young University. She worked at Deseret Chemical, where she met and fell in love with Leland Rockwell. Mary Lou and Lee were married in Tooele on July 23, 1948. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 11, 1952.Mary Lou had a zest for life and could always be recognized by her beautiful smile and cheery disposition. Her greatest love was spending time with her wonderful husband and family at home or outdoors. She worked at the Tooele Army Depot for over 30 years, and served diligently in stake and ward positions as a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mary Lou is survived by her devoted husband of almost 50 years, Lee Rockwell; sons, Michael S. Rockwell and his wife Connie (Stewart), Dennis L. Rockwell and his wife Maria (DiLello), Larry R. Rockwell and his wife Tami (Furgeson), Kelly L. Rockwell and his wife Rebecca (Braun); a daughter, Jannel Rockwell Rhea and her husband Donny Rhea; sister, Lillian Walters; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. All of Mary Lou's surviving family members reside in Tooele. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held in the Tooele 4th-14th Ward chapel located at 178 West 2nd South on Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at 11 a.m. Viewings will be held at the church one hour prior to the service and at Tate Mortuary on Tuesday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.
