The Monticello LDS Temple will be open to the public for a three-day open house this summer.
The open house will be Thursday through Saturday, July 16 through 18, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the first small temple built by the church to be dedicated.The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the need for smaller temples in areas of the world where there were few members.
The church has 51 temples, 11 in Utah. The church's 52nd temple will be dedicated in Preston, England, in June.
The Monticello Temple will be formally dedicated at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 26. Two additional dedicatory services will be held Sunday and four more Monday, July 27. LDS temples are used by faithful members of the church to conduct sacred family ordinances.
Areas using the temple will include Monticello, Moab, Blanding and Durango, Colo. Tickets will not be required.
