Ever wanted to change a stop light? Or sit behind the wheel of a huge piece of machinery? West Valley City's first "public works fair" Tuesday gave citizens the chance to become better acquainted with the department. Several children, above, check out the traffic-lights display while Justin Fracchia, 8, climbs aboard a street sweeper, right. The city shops at 2851 S. 3600 West featured displays on crack seal, signs and asphalt. A storm-drain demonstration was also offered. Helping the public under-stand what the department does may ease frustration in the winter when city snowplows rumble down the street, burying driveways.
