Three robbers armed with pistols stole this painting by Paul Cezanne, titled "Cabanon de Jourdan," and two paintings by Vincent Van Gogh on Tuesday from the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. Although no estimate was given of the value of the paintings, works by the two modern masters command prices in the millions. Museum curator Bianca Pinto said that the paintings would be almost impossible to sell because of their fame. The three bandits apparently mingled with visitors, then stayed behind when the museum closed at 10 p.m. They forced the unarmed three night guards to disable the alarm system, then locked them in a bathroom. Along with the paintings, the ski-masked bandits took the video cassette from the closed-circuit surveillance system, the ANSA news agency said. The unfinished Cezanne, painted in 1906, is one of the modern master's last works and has immense historical importance.
