Death: Roger M. Allred

Roger Allred died in an auto accident May 5, 1998, five days before his 76th birthday.

Too soon.Born May 10, 1922, in Spring City, Utah, the second son of Royal L and Elva Mortensen Allred. He married Lila Rae Justesen on December 27, 1946; later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Attended schools in Spring City and Mt. Pleasant, and Snow College in Ephraim. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in New Guinea and the Philippines. Afterward, he attended BYU on the G.I. Bill, and finished his education at Utah State University.

He and Lila moved back to Spring City in 1950, and have lived there ever since. Roger taught at Spring City Elementary for 34 years; for 26 years he was also the principal. Since their retirement in 1984, he and Lila have had the chance to travel a little: to tour England and Europe, to cruise in the Mediterranean, to see Greece and Egypt, to visit the Scandinavian countries. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1996 with a trip to Hawaii.

Roger was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in many leadership capacities, including as bishop of Spring City Ward, on the High Council, as stake president, and finally as patriarch of the North Sanpete Stake. He put great store in hard work, and loved to stay busy. He was a turkey grower for many years, and operated a small farm, where he spent many happy hours. He loved boxing and ball games, going for evening rides with Lila, and spending time with his family, especially in the mountains. He was kindhearted and generous, and very capable. He just seemed to be able to build or fix anything, and to be able to explain everything...or at least to make you feel better about it.

Survivors: his beloved wife, Lila; his children, Margo (Bill) Harpster, Leslie Allred, Julie Allred, all of Salt Lake City; Neola (Brad) Jones, West Bountiful; Whitney (Tiffany) Allred, Spring City; grandchildren, Amber, Clint and Bart Harpster; Alexis and Kellen Jones; Sydney Anne Allred; brothers, Royal N.
