Since the 1930s, summer in London has been enlivened by Shakespeare in Regent's Park. Since 1963, these productions have been presented by the New Shakespeare Company, the park's resident company. In the Open Air Theater, seating 1,187, the season opens with "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Before the season ends on Sept. 5, it is to be joined in repertory by "Troilus and Cressida" (starting with previews on June 9) and the un-Shakespearean "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (July 21) and "The Jungle Book" (Aug. 4).Evening performances, Monday through Saturday, begin at 8; matinees, usually on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, at 2:30. There are also late-night events and Sunday concerts, comedy shows and recitals.
