The Reverend Canon Carl Roy Ericson, STB, ThD, died on June 12, 1998 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Father Ericson was born on June 7, 1908 in Manhattan, New York to John and Caroline Ericson. He received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology Degree and a Doctorate in Theology from St. John's College of Colorado in 1934 and 1937. He was ordained an Episcopal Deacon in 1934 and a Priest in 1935.He and Leone Ward were married at St. Martin's Chapel, Denver in the Diocese of Colorado on the 28th of May, 1938. Leone died in June of 1981. Father Ericson served in the Diocese of Colorado from 1934 until 1957 at which time he and his beloved Leone came to Utah, where he served faithfully as Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City until 1979. He was appointed honorary Canon of St. Mark's Cathedral in 1979 and during his retirement he served as a non-stipendiary Chaplain at LDS Hospital and continued serving the Diocese of Utah. Father Ericson was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club and the El Kalah Temple of the Shrine.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret Leibing of Catskill, New York and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will include a Requiem Eucharist conducted by the Rt. Reverend Carolyn Irish, Bishop of Utah, Tuesday, June 16th, 12 noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 261 South 9th East. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A reception will follow services at the Church. Funeral Directors, Evans and Early Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or St. Joseph's Villa. Deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph's Villa for their loving care given to Father Ericson.
