Our beautiful and beloved Sherline (Alta Rebecca Jensen) Webster passed away June 15, 1998 at age 91 at Highland Care Center in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
Sherline was born in Sweet, Idaho in 1907, one of seven children of Neils Andrew and Julia Fredricka Dorius Jensen. Her sisters, LaVerne (Joseph) Stallings; and Julene (Rodney) Cushing; and two brothers, Melvin Andrew (Suzanne Lamb) Jensen; and Harvard Dorius Jensen; preceded her in death. She married John Henry Webster in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1939. He preceded her in death February 1998.Her early childhood was adventuresome, as her parents moved about in various business pursuits to Idaho, California, Arizona and finally to Salt Lake City, where she completed her education. Her married life with John, a Kellogg Company vice president was a continuation of adventure and new horizons as they experienced life in Southern and Northern California and Memphis, Tennessee. In 1976, they returned to Salt Lake City to make their home. In 1978-79 they served a mission to the Washington, DC Temple Visitors Center, where they spent a joyous year and a half of service.
Wherever she lived, Sherline gave unselfishly to her church and to her civic callings of her talents in music, drama, and teaching the youth. John and Sherline's homes were always places of beauty, warmth, comfort, delicious feasts and endless hospitality. Sherline was one of life's choicest gifts to all who knew her. We shall miss her loving nurturing presence, her contagious laughter-her merry song. We will remember her inner radiance-undiminished to the end. Family, friends, music, dance, literature and her deep religious convictions were the riches of her life. As she weathered life's storms we often heard her say, "Trust in the Lord and lean not unto thine own understandings." That was her comfort. May our dearest Sherline now rest in the sweet peace she so richly deserves.
She is survived by her four daughters, Marilyn "Chris" Malarkey, of Sacramento, CA; Stephanie (Fred) Ex, of Malibu, CA; Valerie (Robert) Guymon, of Sandy, UT; Victoria (Steven) Birchall, of Alpine, UT; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-children; and many nieces and nephews; all of whom she adored and enjoyed to the fullest. Her abiding philosophy regarding children was to praise, encourage and uplift them at every opportunity. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Louise Epperson, of Bountiful, UT; and Constance Marian (Elias) Smith, of Cottonwood, UT.
Funeral service in her honor will be held Saturday, June 20, 1998, 1 p.m., Grant 4th Ward Chapel, 1111 E. Charlton Ave. (2815 So.) Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E.
