Stevie Wonder lent his name and his time to an international contest designed to inspire new technology for the visually impaired.

The soul-and-pop great, blind since birth, said technology should free people without sight from letting their disability slow them down."It is ridiculous that any person who is blind or visually impaired to not have access to the same information than any other person. We are on the threshold of a new millennium - it's ridiculous," Wonder said Monday at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
