An Ethiopian militia member stands duty in the mountains near the front line of Zala Ambessa near Ethiopia's border with Eritrea. Meanwhile in the capital Addis Ababa, African leaders on a peace mission sought to build support for a U.S.-Rwandan proposal to end the border conflict. The proposal includes a call to Eritrea to redeploy its troops to positions held before the outbreak of hostilities. Leaders of both nations agreed Sunday to halt airstrikes, the first sign they would be willing to compromise on the conflict that broke out in early May and has claimed hundreds of lives.
