NEW U. BASEBALL FIELD? University of Utah baseball players would get a new home under a proposed agreement with the Salt Lake County Commission.

The commission is considering an agreement with the university to pay $2.5 million for the use of various campus recreational facilities. A portion of the money would be used to construct a new baseball diamond for the Utes on Guardsman Way, just south of Steiner Aquatic Center.

Ute Field, the primary practice field and occasional home diamond for the team, will be replaced with university dormitories, part of the Olympic Village for athletes during the 2002 Winter Games. The Utes play most of their home games at Franklin Quest Field and will continue to do so.

At Wasatch Mountain State Park Golf Course, snow prevented the South Region State Amateur qualifying tournament from being played. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
