Authorities closed part of I-84 for six hours after a fuel tanker disconnected from a semi and burst into flames east of Morgan late Wednesday.
The road reopened around 5 a.m. Thursday, said Lt. Verdi White III of the Utah Highway Patrol. The double trailer tanker was traveling west on I-84 at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday when the driver's attention was momentarily diverted, White said. Weather was not a factor.
The semi hit an inside lane guardrail, White said. When the driver attempted to regain control, the rear tank trailer whipped and broke free from the vehicle, smashed through the guardrail and rolled into eastbound lanes. The tank, carrying 6,600 gallons of ether, burst into flames.
Scott Childs, driving for Flying J, was not injured, White said.
