The 65 witnesses listed by defense lawyers include Dale and Connie Jakes, who penetrated the Freeman operation for the FBI and wrote a book about the experience; Derek States, who introduced the Freemen to the undercover FBI agent who triggered their downfall; and FBI agents Randy Jackson and Daniel Vierthaler. The list also includes nine of the 12 defendants themselves, although most have refused even to enter the courtroom.
