Today, I went to the election office to look at the financial statements of my senator, David Steele. As I looked at the many who had contributed to his campaign, I suddenly realized that not one contribution came from his district. Contributions for this year totaled $10,749. Of that total, $10,049, or 93 percent, was from PACs, lawyers, businesses and a fellow legislator. The remaining $700, or 7 percent, was from individuals, but they were all out of our district. What kind of representation can we expect from a legislator who has received nothing from his district? Whose interests will he willing to push, his constituents or those who have donated to his campaign?
