A man waiting in a car while his companions shopped for groceries was beaten and had his car stolen at gunpoint in Salt Lake Thursday.

Two men approached the 1988 Camaro in the parking lot of a grocery store at 203 E. Hampton Ave. at about 8 p.m. and pointed a gun in the 20-year-old victim's face, ordering him out of the car, a Salt Lake police report said.The man refused and the suspects dragged him out of the car. One punched him in the face, but he was not seriously injured.

The two men were last seen driving east from the store.

A witness reported seeing the car at 1175 S. 300 East and contacted police.

One suspect was arrested, Salt Lake police said.

The second suspect, who is described as 5-feet-4-inches tall, with a dark mustache and ponytail, is still at large. He was last seen wearing a long black T-shirt and white tennis shoes. He was the suspect carrying the gun, police said.

The car, a 1988 white Camaro with a t-top, tinted windows, black trim along the door panels and a black bra, has not been recovered. Anyone with information about the incident or who recognizes the car should contact Salt Lake police at 799-3000.
