Firefighters spray water on a fire surging through pines, oaks and underbrush after jumping a forest road and firebreak near Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday. The pumper trucks are on a road running along the eastern perimeter fence for Naval Air Station Cecil Field. A thundershower, meanwhile, moved through Waldo, about 15 miles northeast of Gainesville, Thursday, but it was not enough to put out the flames that forced many of the town's more than 1,000 residents to flee their homes. Some 7,000 acres have burned in the timberland west of Waldo so far this week. At least 107 fires have erupted in 28 of Florida's 67 counties since May 25, scorching more than 46,000 acres.
