The World Atlatl Association and personnel at the Fremont Indian State Park in Sevier County will sponsor an atlatl competition Saturday.
Instruction will also be available for those who haven't experienced throwing the ancient Indian spear-like device.The event will be at the base of Five Finger Ridge, with registration to begin at 8:30 a.m. and competition at 10 a.m.
Competition will be open to all persons of any age capable of throwing an atlatl. It will be divided into divisions for children age 10 and under, youths 11 through 14, and adult men and women. Trophies will be awarded through three places in each division. Loaner equipment is available for persons wishing to enter the contest who do not have their own equipment. Instructors will be available to teach and help first timers.
