Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on June 18, 1998 at his home in Bountiful, Utah.

Charles Henry Empey, age 91, was born July 18, 1906 in Ogden, Utah, to Charles Burns Shipley Empey and Anna Katherine (Katie) Myers.Charles married Elnora South, September 11, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Elnora passed away September 4, 1977. Charles was later married to LeNore Thompson Smedley, November 24, 1989. He was blessed to have two loving companions.

Charles grew up on Ogden, Utah, where he attended Ogden High School. He had a great love for music and played the piano in a dance band with his brother, Philip. He was employed in his father's business, the Ogden Wholesale Drug Company, later know as McKesson & Robbins. He also worked for the Whitman Candy Company as a salesman in the intermountain states area.

Charles was a very active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions throughout his life. These assignments included branch resident, bishop's counselor, member of the high council, Sunday School president, High Priest group instructor and secretary. He had a strong testimony of his faith and shared this testimony with others. He worked for many years as an extractor in the family history program of the Church.

He has lived in Ogden, Utah and Big Fork and Whitefish, Montana, later moving to Bountiful, Utah where he spent the last 20 years of his life. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and spent many enjoyable hours fishing the lakes and streams of Utah and Montana.

He is survived by his wife, LeNore; son, Charles Howard Empey (Linda), of Saratoga, California; daughter, Nonna Empey Jones (Keith), of Bountiful, Utah; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six step-children, Merrill (Barbara) Smedley, Carolyn (Perry) Jordan, Dennis Smedley; 28 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Katherine Empey Johnson, of Liberty, Utah. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elnora, and two sons, Lawrence George Empey, David Lowell Empey, and brother, Philip Howard Empey.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the loving care given to Charles by the Rocky Mountain Hospice Group.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Monday, June 22, 1998 at the Kimball Mill Ward, 650 South 200 East, Bountiful, Utah Friends and family may call on Sunday, June 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and at 10:45 a.m. June 22 at the church prior to the services. Interment will be at Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the Primary Children's Medical Center.
