A couple of new Barilla pasta sauces are awaiting your next carbo-feast. You can try out roasted garlic & onion or roasted eggplant & zucchini. The bottles of sauce retail for $1.99 for 26-ounces.

Nihla Lake (married, two children at home): "We tried the Barilla roasted garlic and onion flavor - and that's like GARLIC!!!! I guess we're just pseudo-Italians because it was a bit much for us. We'll leave this one for the pros."Edyth Jensen (married, son, wife and one grandchild at home): "We tried the zucchini and eggplant flavor Barilla and it had mixed reviews at our house. Some thought it was OK and some of us didn't care for it much. The veggies are in large chunks and the tomato taste was fairly strong. It seemed to be lacking something in spices. I don't plan to buy this anytime soon."

Don Russell (married, five children at home): "Our roasted garlic and onion sauce was not a disappointment. The sauce had a generous amount of diced tomatoes and a very rich garlic flavor. Although I'm not a huge Italian-food fan, I'd rate this sauce as comparable to one at a nice Italian restaurant. Barilla gives you six four-ounce servings per bottle. If you're in a rut with the spaghetti sauce sitting in your pantry, give this one a try."

Linda C. Tingey (single mother, two sons at home): "I tried the garlic and onion over spaghetti and it was wonderful. This is a marvelous pasta sauce and I was impressed with how thick and chunky it was. It also had the right amount of spices. My family loved it. And it's a good price as well. I will buy this again.

"P.S. I saved the sculptured jar for summer flowers."

Rich Firmage (married, four children, oldest 13 years old): "I didn't like this sauce much at all. I can't remember which flavor we tested, something with eggplant in it. If you're into big chunks of eggplant and chunks of other stuff in your sauce, then maybe you'll like this. I don't."

Bill Allred (married): "Well, I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this bottled sauce. I tried the roasted garlic and onion flavor. And it was pretty good. Usually these bottled sauces are too sweet with added sugar, but not this one. It was nice and garlicky, with nice chunks of onion. I'd buy it again."

Conclusion: Our testers put as many thumbs down as thumbs up for the new Barilla sauces. We suggest that if your tastes lean toward traditional Italian food (and we don't mean Chef Boy-Ar-Dee!) you will like this flavorful sauce with chunky vegetables.
