A Utah Highway Patrol trooper caused a three-car accident Friday afternoon, rear-ending a Chevrolet Blazer, which in turn shot forward and hit another vehicle.
Sgt. Dan Rosenhan, 46, was traveling eastbound on 2100 South near 900 West in his patrol car about 1:45 p.m., when he struck the Blazer, which was stopped in traffic. The Blazer then rear-ended a Chevrolet Suburban, Salt Lake police Sgt. Craig Gleason said. The accident was still under investigation Friday, but it appeared that Rosenhan had changed lanes quickly and didn't have time to brake before he realized that traffic was stopped, Salt Lake police Lt. Art Healey said.
No one was seriously injured, but Rosenhan, a 22-year veteran trooper, probably would have been killed if he hadn't been wearing a seatbelt and an airbag had not deployed, UHP Lt. Verdi White said.
"There was quite a bit of impact. I've seen cars like that where the injuries were serious or fatal," White said.
