A loving, kind man passed on to the next phase of his life's journey on June 17, 1998.
James Barton Crapo was born to J. Clement Crapo and Alice Barton Crapo on June 24, 1922 in Sandy, Utah. He married B. Maxine Mortensen in Fort Worth, Texas on November 1, 1944 while serving his country as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on their first wedding anniversary. Together Jim and Maxine raised six children. Jim graduated from the University of Utah in 1948 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He began his career in Hibbing, Minnesota. In 1950 he moved to Salt Lake City where he worked up to Senior Project Engineer for Kennecott Copper and retired in 1985. Jim has served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the last three years as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. Jim was able to fulfill a life-long dream when he and his wife served as missionaries in the England London South Mission. Jim was an absolutely first rate brother, husband, father and "Papa".He is survived by his wife and six children: sons, Michael (Tami) Crapo, Blackfoot, ID; John Crapo, Martin (Elaine) Crapo, and Bryan (Jenny) Crapo, all Salt Lake; daughters, Jeris (J.D.) Johnson, Salt Lake City, and Carol (Rob) Gaskill, Naperville, IL; brother, Richard (Maxine) Crapo; sisters, Mary (Elry) Lundskog; and Charlene Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Crapo; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by a brother, Reed Crapo; and brother-in-law, Ray Gilbert.
"This earth has lost the mortal presence of a genuinely good person. We mourn our parting, but we know he is having a great time reminiscing with old friends and family."
Funeral service will be held Monday June 22, 1998 at 12 noon at the Heughs Canyon Ward 6300 So. 2300 East. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St. and Monday at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment Mountain View Memorial Estates.
