Lamont Halford Knudsen, 80, of Protage, passed away June 18, 1998 at the V.A. Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Born January 21, 1918 in Portage, a son of Lorenzo H. and Eliza Halford Knudsen. He graduated from Bear River High School and later completed the Idaho State University Vo-Tech program in Diesel Mechanics. He married Alta Price September 7, 1940 in Samaria. Served during World War II with the Army Corp of Engineers. Lamont was employed as a diesel mechanic for many years, working for Garrett Freight and I.M.L. Freight Lines. Following retirememt in 1980 he and Alta moved to Portage, where they had since lived. He was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.Lamont is survived by his wife Alta of Portage; four sons, Ren (Linda) of Erda, UT; Randy (Jackie) of Jacksonville, Florida; Jeff of West Valley, Utah; Kendall (Rose) of Blanding, Utah; two daughters, Kathleen Markham and Pauline (Mervin) Evans, both of Taylorsville, Utah; 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Rhoda Holcomb of Lehi; Velma (Ron) Udy of Fielding; Golda Oxenburg and Donna Malan, Both of Goden; Delon (Dick) Greer of Malad, Idaho; Marilyn McCinley of West Valley. Preceded in death by parents; one sister, Hazel Potter; one brother, Moyle Knudsen; two daughters-in-law, Vicki and Juanita.
Funeral services will be Tuesday June 23, at 12 noon in the Portage LDS Ward Chapel, Bishop Val Gibbs officiating. Friends may call at the Portage Church Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Portage Cemetery, with Military Rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
