Our husband, father, son, grandfather, and spiritual beacon, Robert (Bob) Walter Duckworth, age 65, passed away on June 21, 1998, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer.
He was born October 21, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Walter Robinson and Velva Gertrude Hutchings Duckworth. He was raised in Magna where he met his lifelong sweetheart, VeNae Emily Ek. Their love was sealed together for eternity at the time of their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they raised a family that is full of love consisting of six children, 25 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His family, immediate and extended, was always his principal focus and his greatest reward.He was an active member of the LDS Church throughout his life. He held a variety of positions in the stake, including Stake Mission President and High Councilor, and was serving as Bishop of the Spencer Third Ward at the time he was diagnosed with cancer. He loved the members of his ward and loved sharing his special testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His wisdom and strength will live on through the hearts and minds he so generously touched.
He was employed by Kennecott Copper Corporation for 42 years and retired in 1993. He spent his retirement years blessing the lives of those around him. He also served on the board of directors for the Cyprus Credit Union for 30 years. He believed in the value of service, had a special talent for administrative matters, and always gave his very best.
He is survived by his parents; his wife; five children, Rick (Sherri), Ryan (Diane), Cory (Elva), Cherry (Jeff) Collins, Shelby (Shayne) Terry; sister, Sharyn (Floyd) Bailey; 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Sand; and brother, David; both died as infants; and father-in-law, Marvin Ek.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June, 24, 1998, 1 p.m. at the Magna Central Stake Center, 8181 West 3320 South. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12-12:45 p.m at the Magna Central Stake Center. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park. Funeral directors, Peel Funeral Home.
