Dr. David LeRoy Nelson, 52, died June 19, 1998, in an airplane accident, with one of his best friends, Dr. Gary Waite, of Las Vegas, NV.
David LeRoy Nelson was born October 7, 1946, in Provo, UT, to Ivan W. and Gladys Dixon Nelson, but grew up in Phoenix, AZ. He attended Brigham Young University and obtained his MD degree from the University of Utah College of Medicine. He specialized in the practice of emergency medicine for 24 years in the emergency rooms of Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (Provo) and Orem Community Hospital. He was an entrepreneur and developer of several successful businesses outside his medical practice.David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a church mission to Uruguay. He married Claudia Greene in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 10, 1974, and they were blessed with two sons and two daughters. He served in multiple capacities in the church including service in a bishopric and Stake High Council.
David was a gifted sportsman; an enthusiastic participant in the game of life; a devoted husband and father; a caring and skilled physician; a loyal friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia; daughters, Heather and Robyn; sons, Taylor and Brent; parents, Ivan and Gladys Nelson; brother, Kent (Kathleen) Nelson; sisters, Diane (Allen) Garns, Carolyn (Jerry) Shockey, Julie Ann (Kevin) Morris, all of Mesa, AZ; and brother, Bill (Jeanne) Nelson of Provo; and so many friends, relatives, and associates.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at 12 noon, at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 1450 South 800 East, Orem. Friends may call Tuesday, June 23, 1998, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Stake Center, Orem, and on Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at the stake center from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Provo.
