Candidates throughout Utah were working hard Monday on last-minute, get-out-the-vote efforts for Tuesday's primary elections.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters in Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber and Tooele counties can all go to the polls: there are countywide primaries in those areas. Also, voters in the 3rd Congressional District, which includes eastern and southeastern parts of the state, have a primary as well.Tuesday is mostly a Republican affair - there are no Democratic primaries in Salt Lake, Utah, Davis and Weber counties. But because Utah has an open primary system, all registered voters can cast ballots.

Deseret News pollster Dan Jones predicts a low turnout - between 8 percent and 10 percent of voters.

Because of the high number of Republican conservatives challenging GOP moderates this year, a low turnout could mean the majority party in Utah could swing to the right.

Results of Tuesday's election will be found in Wednesday's Deseret News.

The federal government, in what's become routine on election days throughout the country, has set up a hotline for anyone who feels they're a victim of voter discrimination based on racial or minority language. On Tuesday, such people can call a federal voting rights examiner at 1-888-496-9455 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
