Nine high school seniors were recently awarded scholarships after presenting their ideas in a speech, essay and graphic arts design competition. The winners were among 60 applicants for the Utah Credit Unions Award Scholarships.

The students were given $1,500 for placing first in one of the three categories, $1,000 for placing second or $500 for placing third.Speech competition winners are Jonathon Dunn, first place, Lone Peak High School; Kathleen Wilson, second place, Bountiful High School; and Melinda Nielson, third place, Jordan High School.

Essay competition winners are Regan Bryan, first place, Tooele High School; Stephen Scoville, second place, West High School; and Kimberly Mears, third place, Cottonwood High School.

Design competition winners are Brooke Zentner, first place, Cottonwood High School; Megan Bury, second place, Timpanogos High School; and Briana Bench, third place, Taylorsville High School.
