A Sandy man and a girl were injured Saturday when the vehicles they were driving collided in a Sandy intersection.
The man was driving a truck south on 700 East and about 9800 South when he apparently entered the intersection on a red light, police said. Phillip T. Keoppel, 37, was cited for failing to obey a red light and for no proof of insurance, Sandy Police Sgt. Kevin Thacker said.Keoppel was cited two hours earlier that day by the Utah Highway Patrol in a different accident, Thacker said.
The girl, Katie Day, 15, Sandy, was heading East when the two collided about 10 p.m., Sandy police officer Matt McGuire said. Day was driving with only a learner's permit.
Paramedics transported Keoppel by helicopter to LDS Hospital and Day was taken to University Hospital. Keoppel was discharged Sunday and Day was in satisfactory condition Monday, hospital officials said.
Each vehicle had one passenger. Both sustained minor injuries. It was unclear who, if anyone, was wearing seat belts, he said.
