Martha Weijland Paulsen, age 95, passed away on June 21, 1998 in St. Joseph Villa in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born on September 29, 1902 in Stockholm, Sweden to Jonas Alfred Weijland and Augusta Axelina Ericsson. Married Paul I. Paulsen on June 11, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and became an immediate mother of six children and after several years, the mother of a new baby girl.Her life was one of continual learning and doing, serving in Primary and Relief Society in many capacities.
Became a Licensed Practical Nurse May 14, 1949. Took classes at Institute of Religion, played in the harmonica band and took blood pressure at the Senior Center for many years. She never tired of reading and studying and was always serving others. Baking cookies and taking them to friends in the nursing homes until the last few years. Martha received many awards from the Kawanis for her volunteering service. She enjoyed returning to Sweden several times and never lost her deep love for her home land and friends, family that still remain there.
Preceded in death by her husband, Paul; children, Byron and Howard Paulsen and Marion Sjostrand.
Survived by sons, Herman and Chris Paulsen; daughters, Delsa Paulsen and Ruth Salisbury; brother, Don Weijland, Stockholm, Sweden; sister, Karin Selander, of Salt Lake City; 30 grandchildren and many great and great-great- grandchildren.
She has been the great family leader and is loved by all. She has touched this life.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, June 25, 1998 in the Little Cottonwood 9th Ward Chapel, 1160 East Vine Street. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, and Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., and at the ward chapel on Thursday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
