Master violin maker Fritz Reuter holds a viola similar to the $1 million 1723 Dominicus Montagnana viola he helped returned to its owner. Reuter, of Lincolnwood, Ill., alerted police after Robert Heiss offered to sell him a "Stradivarius violin." Heiss was vague about the instrument. "He said he inherited it or bought it or something," Reuter said. "I thought that somehow he and this instrument didn't belong together." Turns out the viola belonged to a Chicago Symphony musician.
