The director of the Murray Public Library and a staff member of the Marriott Library at the University of Utah were recently honored by the Utah Library Association (ULA) during its annual conference.

Dan Barr of Murray Library was presented the Librarian of the Year Award, and Caroljean Hanson of the U. received the Distinguished Service Award for library paraprofessionals and support staff.Barr has been chairman of the Utah association legislative committee. He worked to protect funding for the public library development grant and served in a coordinating capacity between the Utah State Library, the library community and the Legislature. Barr worked to select databases for the Pioneer project in public libraries.

Library association representatives said Hanson has "demonstrated a continuing commitment to paraprofessionals by serving on various ULA committees. Her positive and dedicated attitude continues to inspire other (library) support staff to strive for excellence."
